A Great Multitude
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
For All Saints: three paintings of the multitude before the throne.
On an altar in a green meadow stands the Lamb, and its blood runs into a chalice. Angels kneel around it. From all four sides groups of people approach across the grass: prophets and apostles, popes and hermits, and women with palms in their hands.
God the Father holds the cross with the Son before him; above them hovers the dove. Around the Trinity the saints are gathered in the clouds, and below them the Christians on earth, from pope and emperor to a peasant with his flail.
A huge figure in blue kneels at the left and throws up his arms: John, who sees the vision. Before him naked bodies stretch upward and reach for the robes that small angels bring down to them.
